Coal & Timber Office

Based on B. Horton & Son Coal & Timber Office, Westerham Kent. Built of brick, tile and slate in 1903 and located near to the station goods yard. The building, with some modifications, survives to this day under new ownership. The model is close in style to the office as built.

The kit includes optional interior floor & partitions and expandable 2 bay coal staithes (without coal).

Coal & Timber Office Material Kit

  • 3 x 750 micron (0.75 mm)  A4 Grey Board.
  • 4 x A4 Sticky Backed Paper for Ink Jet or Laser Printers.
  • 1 x 99 mm x 210 mm x 250 micron (0.25 mm) Transparent Sheet.
  • 140 mm x 1.00 mm diameter wire

Kit includes materials for interior floor & partitions and up to 4 bay coal staithes. For more than 4 bay coal staithes order the SPECIAL MATERIAL KIT (below) as well - 1 kit per 4 bays.

You still need to print the model kits yourself and source adhesives.

Some kits require additional, standard, A4 white print paper that you probably already have to hand (not included).

DIY Material List

  1. Coal & Timber Office Kit (.pdf file)
  2. 4 x A4 Sticky Back Label Sheets (recommended). Otherwise, 80g/m2 A4 Copier/Ink Jet White Paper. (2 for office, 1 for interior, 1 per 4 bay coal staithes.)
  3. 3 x A4 Grey Board* (1 for office, 1 for interior, 1 per 4 bay coal staithes.)
  4. 1 x 80g/m2 A4 Copier/Ink Jet Non-Sticky White Paper
  5. 1 x 210mm x 65 mm clear acetate sheet or packaging for window glass

(Ideally 250 micron; thinner is ok)

  1. 140 x 1mm Diameter Wire
  2. Quick Drying PVA glue
  3. Paper Glue Stick
  4. Cyanoacrylate glue
  5. Double Sided Tape for windows if not using stick back paper.
  6. Black acrylic or enamel paint and white spirit for brush cleaning if using enamel paint.
  7. Artist Fixer Spray – To protect from moisture ingress if using water based ink

* Grey Board is a thicker form of cardboard available from eBay.
